Crafting the 22K Gold Emanuel Headjoint – A Personal Milestone

For over three decades, I’ve devoted myself to building flutes by hand — every single component, from raw material to final polish, shaped by my own tools and my own hands. I have never wanted to follow trends or take shortcuts; my goal has always been to create instruments that are as individual as the musicians who play them.

In 2024, I set myself a challenge unlike any I had attempted before: to craft a headjoint made entirely from solid 22K gold — the tube, riser, and lip plate, without compromise.

Working with 22K gold is not for the faint of heart. It is soft, costly, and requires absolute control at every stage. One wrong move, one fraction of a millimeter off, and the work is lost. But the reward is extraordinary: a resonance and depth of tone that I had never heard before, even in the finest precious-metal flutes.

This headjoint is not simply about using rare material; it is about exploring the boundaries of what a flute can be. It’s about discovering new colors, new ways for a player to connect to their sound, and building something that is as beautiful to behold as it is to hear.

I work alone. There is no factory, no production line — just my bench, my hands, and my vision. Every flute that leaves my workshop is unique, carrying with it the care, precision, and dedication that only one maker, working without compromise, can give.

The 22K Gold Emanuel Headjoint is the result of that dedication. And for me, it is proof that there are still new heights to climb in flute making — if one is willing to take the risk.
