Principal Flutist, New York City Ballet
Scott Kemsley is Principal Flutist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra and is recognized as one of the leading orchestral flutists of his generation.
Born in Aurora, Colorado, Kemsley earned his Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School, where he developed the artistic and technical foundations that would lead to a distinguished professional career.
A prize-winning performer, he received First Prize in both the North Carolina Symphony Concerto Competition and the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition. Throughout his career, he has performed with many of America’s leading ensembles, including the New Jersey Symphony, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, Orchestra Miami, and the New World Symphony. He has also appeared on Broadway with the acclaimed production of Wicked.
In March 2018, Kemsley joined the New York City Ballet Orchestra as Principal Flutist, a position that places him among the most prominent orchestral musicians in New York’s vibrant cultural community.
Known for his refined artistry, expressive sound, and exceptional musicianship, Scott Kemsley continues to perform and inspire audiences through his work as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral artist.
