CSO review: Two principal players step into the spotlight

Bravo Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson! Well done!!

With CSO concertmaster Robert Chen leading the orchestra from his chair, Hoskuldsson offered a beguiling performance of Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major, K. 314. From the opening bars of the solo part, there was no mistaking Hoskuldsson’s signature sound: warm, supple, rounded and full. Which made one wonder how Hoskuldsson’s characteristically voluptuous tone would accommodate Mozart’s more restrained, classical-period ethos.
